avatarSami Bop

Sami Bop is a clothing label for girls and boys in sizes 00 to 8 years using vintage and quality recycled fabrics using my own designs.

My name is Danette, and I started my children’s clothing and accessories label in early 2006  as a small project I could incorporate with raising my children from home.  ‘Sami Bop’ is actually the nick-name my son gave his sister when she was first born.  Since then my two children have left home and started ‘big’ school and the label has been slowly growing from strength to strength.

Since the early 80s I have been recycling fabrics.

I studied Fashion Design and Production over 20 years ago and I am a designer/patternmaker and grader (sizing) by trade.   I remember one of my first subjects was writing up specification sheets to send to China.  Since then, most manufacturing has gone off-shore.

Today I am utilising  my skills and experience to create, what I feel, to be an innovative and original concept in childrens clothing.

Fabrics date from the 1950s onwards and consist mainly of wovens with interesting combinations of prints and patterns.

Sami Bop designs are simple, yet very well constructed, with plenty of edgestitching for strength and durability.

I individually make each unique Sami Bop garment myself, sourcing quality vintage or recyclable fabrics from every possible avenue. A majority of them are pre-loved materials that were destined for an amazing outfit that never quite got started, while others are quality linen pieces with interesting patterns and colour combinations that were popular in another era.

Often there can only be 1-4 garments made up in the one material, so my customers are guaranteed a unique and Australian Made item.

I pre-wash all fabrics before production to avoid any problems with shrinking and bleeding of colours, and to be as accurate as possible with care labels.

Styles can be ordered in a specific size if fabric is available, (an initial deposit and postage costs may apply).

Designs are for both girls and boys and sizes range from babies 00 (3 months) to children size 8.

I have always believed boys get a little forgotten in the fashion stakes, so have included a varied  boys range of shirts, jackets, shorts, pants and hats, as well as a few other individual fun items.

As well as The Nook, you can also find Sami Bop products at:

Glenbrook Market – Glenbrook Infants School, Ross St, Glenbrook – 3rd Saturday of the month

Magpie Market – Lawson Public School, Great Western Hwy, Lawson- 3rd Sunday of the month

Also at other select venues and festivals within the Blue Mountains area including the Annual Winter Magic and Leura Street Fair.

Sami Bop has been awarded Finalist in the 2010 Blue Mountains Business Advantage Awards in the categories of: Environmental Business as well as Innovation! Thank you to all who have supported me over the last 4 years.

I have recently added a selection of ladies a-line skirts to my range, just to make sure it’s not just the kids who have all the fun!
